By train

The official site says Amboise station is 10 minutes on foot from the entrance, with direct services from Tours, Saint-Pierre-des-Corps, Orléans and Paris Austerlitz. The TGV station of Tours Saint-Pierre-des-Corps is 20 km away, and the TER to Amboise takes about 15 minutes (a third-party timetable calculation we could not verify).

The official access page has a table with Tours at 0 h 35 and 0 h 20, and Paris at 2 h 39 and 1 h 20. The text we read does not label the two columns, and we read them as car and train. Other sources we saw put direct trains from Paris Austerlitz at around 1 hour 45 to 2 hours, which we did not re-check: use SNCF Connect.

The town organises shuttles between the station and the centre. The tourist office phone is on the official page.

By car

Our estimates, without traffic: Tours 26 km and 33 minutes, Chenonceau 20 km and 26 minutes, Blois 36 km and 40 minutes, Chaumont-sur-Loire 18 km and 25 minutes, Chambord 67 km and 63 minutes, Paris 227 km and 158 minutes.

The official site does not state any parking price, and links to a parking plan in PDF that we did not read. There are charging points in the château car park, rue Victor Hugo. Luggage can be left for a fee before the ticket office.

Reduced mobility

Visitors with reduced mobility can arrive by car at a private entrance at the end of rue Augustin Thierry (maximum vehicle size 2.60 x 2.60 m). The first two floors of the residence and the whole garden are accessible by wheelchair; the second floor is not, and a special HistoPad is offered. The château has the Tourisme & Handicap label (2022), and the official page requires a companion to be present.
